Engineering a Better Future Through Mathematics

The Spark
My career goal is to become an engineer by using the strong foundation I have built through my mathematics degree. Mathematics has strengthened my ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and remain disciplined when facing challenges. These skills are essential in the field of engineering, where precision, creativity, and persistence are needed to design solutions that improve everyday life. Throughout my academic journey, I have learned that mathematics is more than numbers and formulas; it is a powerful tool that allows us to understand the world and develop innovative ways to make it better. By pursuing engineering, I will be able to apply my mathematical knowledge in meaningful ways, such as designing structures, improving technology, and creating systems that positively impact society.

The Flame
Growing up in Florida, I experienced many distractions and struggles that could have easily pulled me away from my goals. There were moments when challenges and adversity made the path forward seem difficult, but those experiences helped shape my determination to succeed. Instead of allowing those struggles to define my future, I chose to use them as motivation to create a better outcome for myself and for others who may be facing similar situations. I want to become an engineer because I believe that success can help remove many of the pains and hardships that affect communities like the one I grew up in. My goal is not only to achieve personal success, but also to use my education and career to inspire change, improve opportunities, and help build a stronger, more supportive community where future generations can grow, learn, and succeed without facing the same barriers.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5–6
